Goals

  • Follow the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills in preparation for Kindergarten and 1st Grade readiness at the public, private or homeschool level

  • Establish school routines

  • Provide instruction with a low student-to-teacher ratio

  • Encourage social and emotional development within a small group setting

  • Foster independence and problem-solving skills

Texas Kindergarten TEKS: At A Glance

Language Arts 110.2 Students will:

  • Develop oral language through listening and speaking

  • Develop foundational skills such as phonological awareness, phonics, concepts of print, decoding

  • and handwriting

  • Develop independent reading skills and expand vocabulary

  • Develop comprehension skills, make connections and learn about author’s purpose

  • Develop writing skills, using pictures and words and share their writing

  • Engage in inquiry and research with adult assistance

Math 111.2 Students will:

  • Acquire number sense, such as understanding more and less and comparing numbers

  • Work with number order and understand quantities

  • Acquire problem solving skills

  • Demonstrate ability to count, add and subtract, measure and graph

  • Identify shapes and their attributes and know the 4 main coins and their value

 

Science 112.11 Students will:

  • Develop abilities to plan and investigate the natural world, while collecting and recording data

  • from observations

  • Properly use tools and follow safety guidelines

  • Identify basic parts of plants and animals and understand their life cycle

Social Studies 113.11 Students will:

  • Identify patriotic celebrations and historical figures of our nation

  • Understand time, chronology, location and physical characteristics of place

  • Understand needs and wants and the value of a job

  • Identify rules and why they are important

  • Understand the importance of family traditions and how they compare to others around them
